Measure the existing cushions length, width and height from the cover’s seam to seam. The existing foam may have lost some volume due to wear and would be best to pull the cover slightly to get the true measurements of the cover. It is good practice to check your measurements to avoid any alterations and extra costs that may occur. Measure twice, cut once.
Adjust the measurements or add a Dacron wrap. The foam inner needs to be slightly bigger than the cover to create a full looking cushion with a snug fit. Therefore, you would need to add 10mm(1cm) to all sides measured including the height. Example: Cover – 500x500x100mm the foam must measure 520x520x120mm (or nearest thickness available). Or select the Dacron Wrap option. No adjustment is needed with a Dacron wrap
Choosing the correct density and hardness. Seat cushions will have to endure much more weight and traffic than back cushions and therefore it is suggested that a high-density foam be used for seat cushions, 30 Density and above (30kg/m3 +) to enhance longevity. Back cushions tend to carry less weight and therefore a medium density foam will be sufficient, 20 Density and above (20kg/m3 +). Hardness comes down to the feel you want to create; hard foam gives more support and softer foam gives pressure relief and a plush feel. The thicker the foam the harder it will feel and vice versa.
Select the Foam Cut Size option on our online store, fill in your measurements recorded in millimeters, choose your desired density and select the Dacron wrap option if needed. You can order and pay for your new foam online without leaving your couch.
